MUSKIES FACTS

Did You Know...
Muskies
"Muskies" was adopted as the college's mascot in the 1930's, when Lakeland was known as Mission House College. It was done at the suggestion of former athletic director and coach Elmer Ott, who owned a resort in northern Wisconsin in a region known for its good fishing, especially muskellunge.
Woltzen Gymnasium
Lakeland's home arena for basketball, volleyball and wrestling is named after Duane (Moose) Woltzen and his wife Dona. Moose Woltzen won 536 games coaching the Muskie men's basketball team and serving as athletic director from 1964-88, and is a member of the Lakeland Athletics Hall of Fame and the NAIA Hall of Fame.
