Lakeland College senior Cole Aiazzi (Yerington, Nev.) has been named an NCAA Division III First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, as the AVCA released its All-America honors Monday.

Aiazzi is the second Muskie to receive AVCA All-America recognition and give Lakeland national selections in each of its first two years as a varsity program. He joins teammate Alec Redlich (Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.), who was named a second team All-American last year.

"I am super happy for Cole on his achievement," said Lakeland head coach Chris Brandt. "He is a player who constantly puts the team and team goals before his own and it is great to see him get national recognition for it."

Aiazzi is the lone libero on the 14-player first team and adds to a list of honors that also included recently being named First Team All-Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League and the MCVL Defensive Player of the Year. He easily led the MCVL this season in total digs and digs per set, finishing with 421 total digs and 3.60 digs per set.

Aiazzi also ranked third in NCAA Division III in digs per set and led the country by a wide margin in total digs, though the latter is not an official NCAA statistical category.

"His on the court play this year was unreal, very rarely do you see in men's volleyball a libero who has the impact that Cole had on our team this year," said Brandt. "His game does not have a weakness to it and because of that he is very much deserving of the recognition."

Aiazzi finished his four-year career with the Muskies with 1,024 digs, including 647 digs over the last two years in Lakeland's first two years as a varsity program. He also holds the program's current record of 29 digs in a match.
