Lakeland University begins its final road swing of the regular season with another important Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game as it travels to face Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at WLC's Raabe Stadium.
The Muskies (4-2 overall, 2-0 NACC) will look to keep up their performance after a big win on Homecoming last week, this time against the last team to beat them in conference play. Lakeland will also be playing the first of two straight road games against conference contenders, with a trip to face current NACC co-leader Aurora University on deck next week.
Â
The Muskies excelled in all phases in rolling to a 57-21 win over Benedictine last week.
Diante Moses led a swarming defensive effort with an interception, a sack, a forced fumble and a blocked punt recovered in the end zone for a touchdown, and in all Lakeland forced four Eagles turnovers and piled up eight sacks, including three by
McNemon Vincent. The Muskies' offense had a less flashy day but still put up 554 yards and managed rainy conditions beautifully, with
Michael Whitley passing for 323 yards and three touchdowns and
Eldrada Meeks rushing for 131 yards and a score.
Â
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-4 overall, 1-1 NACC) scraped out a 22-19 win over Concordia Wisconsin to retain the Luther Cup trophy in the Lutheran Bowl game the two schools annually play. Freshman running back John-Marcus Carruthers rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown in a game that was close throughout and wasn't decided until WLC gained a key first down with 57 seconds left to allow it to run out the clock. The Warriors started 0-4 this season but have won two straight coming in, though, and have posted their best offensive outputs of the season in consecutive weeks.
Lakeland leads the all-time series between the schools 7-3, but Wisconsin Lutheran posted a 50-34 win last season in Sheboygan at Urban Field at Sheboygan North High School. The Muskies have won five straight NACC games since.
