Dominic Schanen is the first wrestler inducted into the Lakeland Hall of Fame and was the first wrestler to qualify for NCAA Nationals during his playing career. After being a NCAA Division III Nationals alternate in 1997, Schanen qualified for the national tournament his last two years (1998, 1999). A two-time NCAA academic All-American, Schanen holds the school record for win in a season (41) and was the 1999 conference champion at 125 pounds. In addition to his wrestling prowess, Schanen was a two-time cross country individual champ (1997, 1998) and was Lakeland's Male Athlete of the Year in 1999. Schanen accumulated these accomplishments in just three seasons due to early graduation, further showing his dominance in both athletics and academics.
