Elease was second in punt returns in NAIA in 1969 and earned honorable mention NAIA all-American. He was all-conference as a senior, and lettered in football for four years, serving as team captain twice and earning team MVP as a junior and senior. He lettered in baseball one year, earning team MVP as a senior.
