This week we caught up with Lakeland Baseball Tucker Gegenfurtner for Muskie Spotlight. Tucker has had a strong start to this season leading the team in batting average, hits, doubles, RBI's, and tied for the team lead in triples, and home runs.
What year are you currently in at Lakeland?
I am currently a sophomore
What's your major and minor?
I am Majoring in Business with an emphasis in Communication
What are you looking to do after graduating from Lakeland?
I am looking to join a realty team and be a relator.
What made you choose Lakeland? Was there anything that made Lakeland stand out from any other schools you were looking at?
I chose Lakeland because of the Co-Op, and the smaller class sizes allowing for more time with professors.
Do you have any baseball superstitions?
Yes, listening to music while throwing in the Bullpen before the game.
You’ve managed to hit more doubles this season than the whole season last year. What adjustments have you made to your approach at the plate, and what do you think has led to this increase in extra-base hits?
A couple of the main adjustments I have been making are keeping my swing the same but adjusting my sights of where I want to hit the ball and moving around the box with different pitchers. Putting myself in a better position to hit the ball that I want to hit it.
In the win over Benedictine, you not only pitched well but also came through with a huge 2-run RBI double to take the lead. How did it feel to contribute both on the mound and the plate in such a pivotal moment against last year’s conference champions?
It felt great to be able to do this for our team. It was awesome to be the spark of the confidence we need as a team to be able to grow and win games like that consistently.
