Sami Jo Williams (So.-Sussex, Wis.) shot her best 18-hole score as a collegian in helping the Lakeland College women's golf team win a triangular with Alverno College and Wisconsin Lutheran College Sunday afternoon at Whitnall Park Golf Course in Greenfield.
Williams shot a round of 85 to earn medalist honors, finishing 14 strokes above par and leading a Muskie sweep of the top three spots individually on the par-71, 5,897-yard course. She also led Lakeland to a team score of 391, easily outdistancing second-place Alverno (480). Wisconsin Lutheran recorded just three finishers and did not post a team score.
Williams birdied the 168-yard, par-3 third hole early in the round, the only birdie by anyone on the day, and then finished with a flourish on the back nine. She shot a 41 over the final nine holes, five over par, including pars on four of the final five holes.
