Despite missing a few key players from their roster on Saturday, the women's soccer team (2-3-1) fought through regulation and two overtime periods to tie Wisconsin Lutheran 1-1.

After going down 0-1 early on in the game after a Warrior's goal off a free kick in the first five minutes of play, sophomore Maggie Short came off the bench to knock in a crossed ball in the 32nd minute for the Muskies only goal.

"We had a silly foul and were a little slow reacting to it," said head coach Dave Madsen of the early goal. "We got caught napping."

However, Short's goal provided the team with a pleasant surprise, as she was playing outside her normal role as a defender to avoid aggravating an injury.

"Maggie did very well playing out of position," Madsen said. "She was very dangerous out on the field and saw a few opportunities to score."

Despite efforts on both sides, the 1-1 tie stood though the second half and both OT's although Lakeland got off three shot attempts in the first overtime to Wisconsin Lutheran's zero.

"We had lots of chances to score," said Madsen. "I thought we were the better team, we just couldn't get the goal. It's frustrating because I thought we played well enough to win."

However, the Muskies are still technically undefeated in conference, which bodes well as the season continues and injured players recover.

"I told the girls to get a result, which they accomplished by battling the whole game," Madsen said. "The tie leaves us in a good spot."

Lakeland will round out their weekend tomorrow with a non-conference game vs. Mount Mary College on Muskie Field at 2 p.m.
