The Lakeland College women's soccer team endured a brutal assault from St. Norbert College in non-conference action on Thursday, Sept. 20, resulting in a 7-1 loss.

"We did not play with enough intensity, and although St. Norbert is a good team, I don't think the score represents what they were doing to us but rather shows the extent of our own breakdowns," said head coach Dave Madsen. "We knew exactly what we were looking at coming in and how to attack them, but we didn't take advantage of that or execute at all."

The Green Knights came out with a strong offensive attack, splitting their goals fairly evenly throughout the two halves and racking up a total of 20 shot attempts for the game on freshman keeper Whitney England, who snagged six saves. However, despite 12 shot attempts, the Muskies (1-7) were unable to find the back of the net until senior midfielder Lola Engel tallied the last goal of the game off a free kick in the 73rd minute.

"We got to the point where we were so frustrated that it drew intensity out of us, which was good to finally see," Madsen said. "It was frustrating to see that we couldn't bring that level of intensity from the start and sustain it for the full 90 minutes."

Lakeland will look to get its season back on the right track on Saturday, Sept. 22, as the squad returns to Northern Athletics Conference action with a tough game against Dominican University. The Muskies were defeated by the Stars, 1-0, in the first round of last year's NAC Tournament, and will hopefully make strides to avenge that loss.

"They are going to be a strong team," Madsen said of Dominican. "We need to believe in what we're doing and take advantage of some opportunities to dictate the flow of play."

Game time with Dominican is set for 3:30 p.m. at Muskie Field.
