Shorthanded Lakeland women fall to Concordia

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia University Chicago struck twice in the first in the first 11 minutes for goals and the Lakeland College women's soccer team was downed by a 5-0 score Sunday afternoon at Concordia Stadium.

The shorthanded Muskies played with just 11 players due to injuries and illnesses, and Concordia took advantage to deal them a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss. Lakeland is now 2-11-1 overall and 0-5 in the NACC, while the Cougars improved to 9-5 overall and 2-4 in conference.

Concordia scored just 3:16 into the match when Natalie Weinhold tallied unassisted, and the Cougars added a second goal by Alisha Johnson at 10:45.

The Muskies kept within striking distance from there, trailing 2-0 at halftime as goalkeeper Jessica Carter (Jr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) made four saves in the first half. Concordia added second half goals in the 56th, 67th and 84th minutes, though, pulling away in the final 45 minutes.

Carter made 10 saves in the match as the Muskies were outshot 30-1. Ali Thompson (Sr.-Plymouth, Wis.) attempted the lone shot for Lakeland in the final minute, with Cougar keeper Ally Krajnak making the save.

The Muskies are home for their next match on Wednesday when they host Alverno College at 3:30 p.m.
