For the second consecutive year, Lakeland College will host Wisconsin Lutheran College in front of the alumni when the two teams square off for Lakeland's 78th Homecoming football game Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Taylor Field.
The Muskies enter with a 0-3 record and are coming off a second straight tough non-conference loss. Lakeland was defeated by Carthage 21-14 last week, as the Red Men scored 21 points in the final 15:01 of the game to come back after the Muskies led much of the way.
A.J. Veloz (
Fr.-Whiting, Ind.) and
Michael Esiobu (
Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) hooked up for touchdown passes of 29 and 68 yards, but Carthage scored the go-ahead touchdown with 5:14 left in the game to defeat Lakeland for the 10th straight time in the series.
The Warriors enter with a 1-2 record and were idle last week. WLC did grab its first win of the season two weeks ago when it defeated Kalamazoo (Mich.) 32-20. WLC gained 463 yards of offense and took advantage of four Hornet turnovers, outscoring the visitors 25-7 after an early 14-7 deficit.
The game marks the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener for both teams and will be a rematch of last year's memorable Muskie Homecoming win over the Warriors. Lakeland defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 40-34 in overtime, as the teams weathered fog, storms and lightning and finished just before dark.
