MILWAUKEE – Nick Zupinski scored unassisted in the 83rd minute for Wisconsin Lutheran College and the Lakeland College men's soccer team saw its season end with a narrow 1-0 loss Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.
The Muskies were defeated in their season finale and finish the year with a 6-12-1 overall record and a 2-8 conference mark. Lakeland finished tied for ninth in the NACC, one spot behind Wisconsin Lutheran, which finished 9-9-1 overall and 3-6-1 in conference.
The Muskies outshot the Warriors 13-9, with both teams firing four shots on goal. Lakeland had just one shot at goalkeeper Cedric Guichard in the second half, though, with a shot by
Franco Herrera (
Jr.-Naucalpan, Mexico) saved by Guichard in the 61st minute.
Austin Ganzke (
Sr.-West Allis, Wis.) made three saves in goal for the Muskies. Herrera attempted four shots, while
Brian Herrmann (So.-Hortonville, Wis.) and
Nwachan (Ayoko) Nda (
Jr.-Douala Litoral Region, Cameroon) added two shot attempts each.
The match was the final one for four Lakeland seniors, including Ganzke,
Brandon Barry (
Lake Geneva, Wis.),
Kyle Bissen (
Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and
Danny Drabik (
Madison, Wis.).
