Warriors score late to end Muskies’ season on sour note

MILWAUKEE – Nick Zupinski scored unassisted in the 83rd minute for Wisconsin Lutheran College and the Lakeland College men's soccer team saw its season end with a narrow 1-0 loss Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.

The Muskies were defeated in their season finale and finish the year with a 6-12-1 overall record and a 2-8 conference mark. Lakeland finished tied for ninth in the NACC, one spot behind Wisconsin Lutheran, which finished 9-9-1 overall and 3-6-1 in conference.

The Muskies outshot the Warriors 13-9, with both teams firing four shots on goal. Lakeland had just one shot at goalkeeper Cedric Guichard in the second half, though, with a shot by Franco Herrera (Jr.-Naucalpan, Mexico) saved by Guichard in the 61st minute.

Austin Ganzke (Sr.-West Allis, Wis.) made three saves in goal for the Muskies. Herrera attempted four shots, while Brian Herrmann (So.-Hortonville, Wis.) and Nwachan (Ayoko) Nda (Jr.-Douala Litoral Region, Cameroon) added two shot attempts each.

The match was the final one for four Lakeland seniors, including Ganzke, Brandon Barry (Lake Geneva, Wis.), Kyle Bissen (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and Danny Drabik (Madison, Wis.).
