Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lakeland falls at Nebraska Wesleyan to close long road trip

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Lakeland College women's basketball team shot 18.8% in the second half as Nebraska Wesleyan University pulled away for a 69-45 win Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game.

The Prairie Wolves outscored the Muskies 28-8 over the first 13:46 of the second half to win the first meeting between the schools since 1996. Nebraska Wesleyan won that meeting 18 years and two days ago to the day, and with this win improved to 2-9 on the season, while Lakeland dropped to 2-9.

The Muskies trailed just 33-29 at halftime after a back-and-forth first 20 minutes that included seven lead changes and four ties. Lakeland shot just 6-for-32 after the break, though, and finished the game shooting 17 of 61 (27.9%).

The game was a reunion between current Muskies head coach Lindsey Vande Hoef and former Lakeland assistant Britni Fett, who departed in 2013 for her first head coaching job at Nebraska Wesleyan, an NAIA Division II member of the powerful Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Prairie Wolves out-rebounded Lakeland 52-37 and got 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals from Felicia TeKolste in snapping a six-game losing streak.

C.J. Usadel (Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) was a bright spot for Lakeland, finishing with 16 points, including four three-pointers, as well as four steals. Bailey Grayvold (So.-Norway, Mich.) added nine points as well as a team-high eight rebounds.

The Muskies return back to campus after the trip to Iowa and Nebraska but will travel again on Saturday when they face Aurora (Ill.) University in their first game of the new year. Game time will be 2 p.m.
