MILWAUKEE – Played just over 12 hours after a taxing loss to a conference power, the Lakeland College women's volleyball team showed resilience in posting an easy three-set sweep of Alverno College Saturday morning in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.
The Muskies rolled to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-8 victory to get back on track in league play, improving to 9-12 overall and 3-1 in the NACC. The team's domination of the Inferno all-time continued, as Lakeland improved to 17-1 overall against Alverno.
Lakeland erased some of the negative taste of a tough loss to conference power Dominican (Ill.) University Friday night with a hyper efficient offensive performance. The Muskies attacked at a remarkable .451 clip Saturday with 44 kills and just seven errors in 82 attack attempts.
Allison Errthum (
So.-Joliet, Ill.) in particular rebounded in grand fashion from a tough night Friday. The outside hitter posted 12 kills and just one error in 14 attack attempts for a .786 attack percentage that would've ranked as the second-best hitting percentage in a match in school history if she had recorded one more attempt.
Kathy Flanagan (
Jr.-Midlothian, Ill.) and
LeShay Jones (
Sr.-Pontiac, Mich.) both added eight kills each.
Taylor Levitt (
Jr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) posted 33 assists while
Caleigh Galvan (
Sr.-New Lenox, Ill.) led the defense with 12 digs.
Alverno (6-14 overall, 0-5 NACC) was led by Melissa Weyand with 10 kills. Meranda Masse added 20 assists.
The Muskies next will play another tough NACC match in a week when they host Concordia University Wisconsin next Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
