CLERMONT, Fla. –
Sami Jo Williams (
So.-Sussex, Wis.) had four hits and drove in a pair of runs over two games but the Lakeland College softball team concluded its spring break trip with two losses Friday at the PFX Spring Games.
The Muskies were defeated by Monmouth (Ill.) College 8-4 in their first game and lost to Thiel (Pa.) College 7-3 in their second game. Lakeland wrapped up its trip with a 4-6 record and heads back to Wisconsin with a 5-9 record overall.
Williams had three hits and scored two runs and
Calie Delisi (
Fr.-Oak Forest, Ill.) added two hits in the first game as the Muskies outhit the Fighting Scots 11-8. Eight different players recorded hits and Lakeland scored in four separate innings, but Monmouth overcame that with one big inning, scoring five times in the fourth.
Charlotte Park doubles for the Scots in both the third and fourth innings. Her three-run bases-clearing double in the fourth put Monmouth ahead for good at 7-2.
Savannah Stenlund (
Fr.-Rapid River, Mich.) started and went 3 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits and seven runs (four earned) with a strikeout.
Elizabeth Zimmerman (
Sr.-Shawano, Wis.) came on in relief and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.
The second game saw the Muskies score all three of their runs in the sixth inning. Lakeland trailed 5-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, but
Ashleigh Monticello (
Jr.-Rapid River, Mich.) singled to drive in
Rosa Gonzalez (
Fr.-Elwood, Ill.) and Williams doubled in Delisi and
Hailey Jester (
Fr.-Salem, Wis.) to cut the Thiel lead to 5-3.
Bella Wilkinson (
Fr.-Evergreen Park, Wis.) had three hits and Jester and Monticello both added two hits each.
Brooke Paige (
Fr.-Harbor Springs, Mich.) started in the circle and went six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs (four earned) with two strikeouts before Zimmerman finished up and allowed three hits and two runs in an inning.
Lakeland will get two weeks off before its next game, which will be the home opener against Concordia University Chicago in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-opening doubleheader on March 28.
