Wisconsin Lutheran College was red-hot at the plate, pounding out 34 hits over two games in sweeping the Lakeland College baseball team in a doubleheader Saturday.
The Muskies were defeated in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference openers by scores of 13-3 and 18-4. Wisconsin Lutheran improved to 10-3 this season, while Lakeland is now 4-12 overall.
The Muskies scored early in both games but were unable to keep pace with the hot-hitting Warriors, who had separate big innings of eight, seven and six runs over the two games.
Bryce Skelton (
Jr.-Delavan, Wis.) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning in the first game to give Lakeland a 3-1 lead, while
A.J. Dollinger (
Sr.-Ashwaubenon, Wis.) had three hits in the opener.
The Muskies also cut an early 4-0 deficit in the second game in half when
Brady Callahan (
Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) doubled in a run and
Jared Rear (
Jr.-Belleville, Wis.) followed with a double to score him. Callahan would double again in the fifth inning, moved to third on an RBI ground out by Rear and scored on a single by Dollinger.
Dollinger had four hits for the day and Skelton added three.
Lakeland's scheduled doubleheader at Benedictine University on Sunday has been moved to Monday due to anticipated wet weather on Sunday. The teams will now play on Monday at 2 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
