DE PERE – St. Norbert College scored twice in the first eight minutes and all three of its goals in the first half as the Lakeland College men's soccer team began its season with a 3-0 loss Tuesday night in a non-conference match.
Sam Lamers scored twice as the Green Knights stunned the Muskies with two early strikes to gain control. St. Norbert defeated Lakeland for the second straight year.
The hosts scored just 1:07 into the match when Lamers received a pass from Marco Delbecchi before putting St. Norbert ahead. The Green Knights scored again just over six minutes later, as Patrick Hehir and Sean Sladky assisted Lamers on his second goal.
St. Norbert added a third goal late in the first half, as Kieran Ruane found the top of the net with an assist from Andy Frank for a 3-0 lead with 7:17 left in the half.
The Muskies were outshot 10-3 in the first half but put more pressure on in the second half with seven shots.
Franco Herrera (
Sr.-Naucalpan, Mexico) and
Charles Apostolik (
Fr.-New Castle, Colo.) both had a pair of shots in the match, and six others had one shot attempt.
Logan Massey (
Sr.-New Franken, Wis.) started in goal, while
Thomis Mannebach (
So.-Florence, Wis.) came on in the second half and made six saves. Eddie Sanchez made six saves to get the shutout for St. Norbert.
Lakeland next heads to Jacksonville, Ill., for a pair of matches hosted by Illinois College. The Muskies will face Westminster (Mo.) College on Saturday at 3 p.m. before challenging Coe (Iowa) College at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
