Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Allen tallies hat trick, Lakeland offense cranking again in win over Alverno

Taryn Allen (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) scored three goals for her first collegiate hat trick and the Lakeland College women's soccer team continued to light up the scoreboard in a 5-0 win over Alverno College Saturday afternoon on a soggy home field.

The Muskies won their second straight match and crept closer to the .500 mark, improving to 3-4 overall while also winning their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener. Lakeland also scored multiple goals in a match for the sixth time in seven matches this season and, with 25 goals in seven matches, has already surpassed its goal scoring total for all of last year.

Allen became the second Muskies player to score three in a single game this year, joining Mimi Pulido (Sheboygan, Wis.), who scored three in the team's opener against Eureka (Ill.) College. She scored the first two goals of the match and added a third early in the second half.

Pulido and Brianne Frank (Jr.-Plain, Wis.) also added single goals, including a corner kick curled in by Pulido late in the first half as Lakeland took a 3-0 lead into halftime. Frank added the Muskies' final goal, redirecting a free kick by Tiffany Fischer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) for the final goal with just over three minutes remaining in the match.

Stephanie Figueroa (Fr.-Round Lake Park, Ill.) and Maddy Schone-Knoll (So.-Roscoe, Ill.) both added assists for Lakeland, which dominated possession and held a 33-2 advantage in shot attempts and a 19-2 bulge in shots on goal.

Melissa Noll (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) needed to make just two saves for her second win in goal and her second shutout. The match was played on a field that was damp after a night of rain and softened up even more after the Lakeland/Rockford men's match earlier in the day.

Lakeland will step out of conference for its next match when it travels to face Ripon College on Thursday at 4 p.m.
