Pulido scores again but Warriors defeat Muskies under the lights

MILWAUKEE – Mimi Pulido (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) scored her 10th goal of the season but the Lakeland College women's soccer team was defeated by Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-1 Wednesday night.

Pulido converted a free kick from 25 yards out just before halftime to get the Muskies on the board and cut into a three-goal deficit. WLC held Lakeland scoreless in the second half though to win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference encounter.

The host Warriors (2-8-1 overall, 2-1 NACC) scored on a goal by Helen Joyce in the 24th minute and then added two more goals late in the first half in a span of 1:51. Olivia Scheiber scored both goals, receiving passes in the box and converting, her second of the match at 39:17 making the score 3-0.

Pulido scored on a set piece just eight seconds before halftime to make it 3-1 at the break. Neither team scored in the second half, with the Muskies' best chance coming in the 74th minute when a shot by Taryn Allen (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) was saved by Warriors goalkeeper Rachel Sebald.

Allen and Pulido combined for nine of the 10 shot attempts for Lakeland (3-7 overall, 1-2 NACC), with Kelly Jens (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) attempting the other shot. Jessica Carter (Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) made seven saves in goal for the Muskies.

Lakeland is home on Saturday when it welcomes Benedictine (Ill.) University for a match at 3:30 p.m., the second match of a doubleheader with the Eagles that day that also includes a match between the two men's teams at 1 p.m.
