Shooting 50% from the field, the Lakeland College women's basketball team displayed its finest shooting touch of the season in cruising past Edgewood College 69-56 Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies hit 22 of 44 field goal attempts and never trailed and in winning for the sixth time in their last seven games. After a long climb, Lakeland is back at the .500 mark overall at 8-8 and is now 7-4 and just two games out of first place in the NACC.
The Muskies made 14 of 25 shots in the first half (56.0%) and took control from the bat with an 11-2 run to start the game. Lakeland went ahead by double digits early in the second quarter and never saw the lead slip below 11 the rest of the way in sweeping the season series from the Eagles (4-12 overall, 3-8 NACC).
Kayla Clark (
Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) and
Trista Barron (
Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) both scored 13 points each and combined to make five of the Muskies' six three-pointers. Barron hit a pair of threes in the first half as Lakeland led by as many as 19 points, while Clark's layup with 9:26 left in the game gave her team its biggest lead at 61-37.

Jessica Beaudry (
Fr.-Gladstone, Mich.) scored eight and
Maddy Doll (
So.-Florence, Wis.) scored six points and added team highs with nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Clark and
Gaby Cappaert (
Jr.-Fremont, Calif.) also had four assists each as the Muskies were unselfish throughout and recorded assists on 16 of their 22 field goals.
Sierra Jiran scored 16 points to lead Edgewood, which finished 21 of 55 (38.2%) from the floor. The Eagles also won the rebounding battle 38-33 but made just 11 of 28 free throws (39.3%).
Lakeland is home again on Saturday when it hosts Concordia University Chicago at 4:15 p.m. at the Woltzen Gym.
