Freshman
Kyle Domark (
Yorkville, Ill.) came off the bench to score 18 points and led a blistering three-point attack for the Lakeland College men's basketball team in its 97-64 win over Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies drained a season-high 13 three-pointers in 31 attempts (41.9%), including eight in the first half. Lakeland never trailed in the game and improved to 11-7 overall and 7-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Domark hit three three-pointers in his first extended action of the season and provided a lift in the first half as the Muskies took a 47-32 halftime lead. He was one of a number of reserves to chip in, as the Lakeland bench scored 51 of the team's 97 points and also was heavily involved in the team's 51-35 rebounding advantage, grabbing 38 caroms-nearly three-quarters of the team's total.
The reserves provided highlights right up to the end, with sophomore
Reggie Nimmer (
Kewaunee, Wis.) scoring a pair of baskets on offensive rebounds late,
Alex Whitt (
Fr.-Dunbar, Wis.) and
De'Vonte Maynard (
Fr.-Beach Park, Ill.) also scoring after attacking the offensive glass and
Nyles Roberts (
Fr.-Chicago, Ill.) finishing the game's scoring with a flying dunk in the final minute.
Zach Van Engen (
Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) also hit three three-pointers and
Brandon Hagenow (
Sr.-Sussex, Wis.) hit two more triples and scored all nine of his points in the first half.
Brandon James (
So.-Rockford, Ill.) and
Pat McDonald (
Fr.-Port Washington, Wis.) also hit two three-pointers each and finished with 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Tanner Hackl (
Sr.-West De Pere, Wis.) added 13 points as four players scored in double figures for the Muskies, who shot 49.2% as a team (31 of 63).
Travis Kell (
Jr.-Madison, Wis.) added a team-high seven rebounds.
Lakeland head coach
Aaron Aanonsen also moved into second on the Muskies' all-time wins list for men's basketball coaches with his 127th career victory. The win broke a tie for second with Marinus Kregel (1937-50), and he is now behind only the legendary Duane (Moose) Woltzen, who won 536 games as coach from 1964-87.
Mike Walmer scored a game-high 20 points for the Cougars (4-12 overall, 4-9 NACC), who shot just 29.7% (19 of 64) against a stout Lakeland defense and hit just 4 of 33 three-point attempts (12.1%).
The Muskies are home again Tuesday when they host Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m.
