Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Muskies bounce back, handle Alverno for Homecoming win

Allison Errthum (Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) led the way in multiple phases and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team got back in the win column by sweeping Alverno College Saturday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies defeated the Inferno 25-20, 25-17, 25-9 to snap a four-match losing streak. Lakeland also responded after a frustrating four-set loss to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Marian University on Tuesday and improved to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Errthum was strong on the attack with eight kills and just two errors in 18 attempts. She also led the defense with 10 digs and added four service aces, as the Muskies served 10 aces in the match that took little more than an hour.

As a team, Lakeland hit .241 with 36 kills and 15 errors, and the Muskies also were helped by the error-prone visitors. Alverno hit -.092 for the match with 14 kills and 21 errors.

Despite their struggles, the Inferno made Lakeland sweat for the first set. The teams were tied 19-19 in the first set when Madison Schweitzer (Fr.-Thornton, Ill.) put the Muskies ahead with a kill, and then Natalie Bova (Fr.-??, Ill.) served three straight points, including a service ace.

Brittini Scoles (Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) also posted eight kills, while Courtney Naser (Jr.-Altoona, Wis.) added seven kills in just 13 attempts. Schweitzer paced the team with 28 assists and Emma Bruder (So.-Frankfort, Ill.) added eight digs and two service aces.

Jessica Wewers led Alverno (3-18 overall, 1-4 NACC) with seven kills, Sam Korn dished out 12 assists and Danielle Schilawski led the team with eight digs.

The Muskies are back in action Wednesday when they travel to face Dominican University for a 7 p.m. start in River Forest, Ill.
