PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the match to defeat the Lakeland University women's volleyball team in five sets Wednesday night in a non-conference match.
The Pioneers overcame deficits twice in the match to win 19-25, 25-8, 22-25, 27-25, 15-10. The Muskies were playing for the second straight night and dropped to 10-12 overall, while UW-Platteville of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference improved to 7-16.
Lakeland got off to a good start with a strong first set, pulled ahead late to win a competitive third set and then lost a hard-fought fourth set. The Pioneers then pulled away early in the fifth set and finished the match on a 5-1 run after the Muskies had closed within a point.
Brittini Scoles (
Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) led the attack with 13 kills while
Kathy Flanagan (
Sr.-Midlothian, Ill.) and
Courtney Naser (
Jr.-Altoona, Wis.) both added seven kills each. The Muskies hit .048 for the night with 43 kills and 35 errors, though they did hit between .104 and .150 in four of the five sets, the exception being an ugly second set that got away with three kills and 12 errors.
Allison Errthum (
Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) led the defense with 18 digs while Flanagan had three blocks (one solo, two assisted).
Madison Schweitzer (
Fr.-Thornton, Ill.) finished with 35 assists.
Amber Williams led Platteville with 17 kills while Ashlee Moore added 13 kills. The Pioneers also finished with 14 team blocks to Lakeland's three, with Moore and Lidia Frias combining for eight team blocks.
The Muskies continue their busy week on Friday when they host Concordia University Chicago at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
