Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Eagles use early jump to shutout Muskies on Senior Day

Edgewood College pounced for three early goals and went on to defeat the Lakeland University women's soccer team 6-0 Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The Muskies faced a tough task against one of the conference's best teams and fell behind too much too early in dropping to 2-12-1 overall and 1-6 in the NACC. Lakeland also was defeated on its Senior Day as four outgoing players were honored at halftime of the match.

The Eagles (11-3 overall, 7-1 NACC) scored three times in the first 13:35 to open a quick three-goal lead. Taylor Pampuch scored all three goals, with two coming from assists by Mady Warda.

Edgewood also added two more goals late in the first half and took a 5-0 halftime lead. Emily Skaer added an unassisted goal late for the final score.

The Muskies were outshot 26-4, though they did generate some opportunities in the second half. Stephanie Figueroa (So.-Round Lake Park, Ill.) put a pair of shots on goal with pesky play in the offensive end, and Makenna Waller (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) likewise used good work in the midfield to get off two shots.

Karisa Rowland (Fr.-Peoria, Ariz.) went the distance in goal and made 11 saves for Lakeland. The Muskies also celebrated Senior Day for four players: Afton Barrows (Iron Mountain, Mich.), Brianne Frank (Plain, Wis.), Karen Hjelle (Malone, Wis.) and Alexa Piskule (Crystal Lake, Ill.).

Lakeland returns to the field Wednesday when it travels to face Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee. The Muskies will have one final home match Wednesday, Oct. 26, when they host Concordia University Wisconsin.
