Muskies scored early but fall to Falcons 4-1 in season-ender

The Lakeland University women's soccer team scored an early goal but Concordia University Wisconsin answered with four first-half goals to win 4-1 Friday afternoon in the season finale for both teams.

The Muskies got an early lead on the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season champions before the Falcons rallied. Lakeland finished its season at 2-15-1 overall and 1-9 in the NACC, while Concordia finished the year 5-11-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference.

The Falcons peppered shots throughout, finishing with a 38-5 shots advantage. Karisa Rowland (Fr.-Peoria, Ariz.) made a career-high 23 saves, including stopping all 14 shots she faced in the second half.

The Muskies were able to counter Concordia rushes several times early and in the 14th minute turned it into a goal. Meagan Simmons (Fr.-Troy, Ill.) found Rachel Hasko (Fr.-Racine, Wis.) with a pass and Hasko scored for her fourth goal this season.

The Falcons needed just over two minutes to tie the score as Nicole Ciesielczyk scored in the 16th minute to tie it. Concordia then took the lead at 33:05 on a goal by Abigail Freeland, and the visitors added two more goals by Brittany Klumpp just 30 seconds apart late in the half.

Stephanie Figueroa (So.-Round Lake Park, Ill.) led Lakeland with three shot attempts while Brianna Johnson (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) also added one shot attempt. Johnson finished as the team's leader in goals (six) and points (15) and finished tied with Figueroa, Hasko and Abby Mauer (Fr.-Waldo, Wis.) for the team lead in assists with three each.

The match was the final one for four Muskies seniors: Afton Barrows (Iron Mountain, Mich.), Brianne Frank (Plain, Wis.), Karen Hjelle (Malone, Wis.) and Alexa Piskule (Crystal Lake, Ill.).
