Falcons have edge over Lakeland in key NACC volleyball match

MEQUON – The Lakeland University women's volleyball team took its second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss of the season with a three-set defeat at Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday afternoon.

Concordia used an efficient attack to post a 25-20, 25-16, 26-24 sweep in a matchup of two of the presumed top teams in the conference. The Falcons remained undefeated in the NACC at 5-0 (14-6 overall), while the Muskies dropped to 3-2 in league play and 10-10 overall.

Lakeland hit .122 for the match with 29 kills and 14 errors in 123 attempts. The Muskies' usually stout service game also was as silent as its been all season with just one service ace, six below its season match average.

Lakeland was competitive but just a shade off the pace in the first set before Concordia won the second set comfortably. The Muskies did have a chance in the third set to push the match further with a set point at 24-23, but the Falcons scored three straight points and closed out the match.

Brittini Scoles (Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) was easily Lakeland's most consistent player on the attack with 12 kills and just three errors in 31 attempts. After her, Allison Errthum (Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) was the only other Muskies player with more than three kills, finishing with six kills as well as 13 digs.

Taylor Levitt (Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) led the defense with 16 digs and Brianna Johnson (So.-Altoona, Wis.) added 11 digs. Madison Schweitzer (Fr.-Thornton, Ill.) finished with 29 assists and had the team's lone service ace.

Freshman Megan Mayer led Concordia with 11 kills and also added 11 digs. Karina Klotz finished with 22 assists and 11 digs and Lindsey Casper led with 18 digs.

The Muskies' tough conference stretch continues on Tuesday when the team is back home to face Edgewood College at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
