Muskies battle back but season ends in NACC quarters against Eagles

MADISON – Refusing to go down without a fight, the Lakeland University women's volleyball team left it all on the floor but saw its season come to an end with a four-set loss to Edgewood College Tuesday night in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

The fifth-seeded Muskies lost the first two sets but won the third and very nearly won the fourth, eventually falling 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 30-28. Fourth-seeded Edgewood advances to a semifinal match Thursday where it will face Number 1 seed Concordia University Wisconsin.

Lakeland finished its season with a 15-17 overall record. The Muskies also saw their season end at the hands of the Eagles for the third time in four years, all three times coming in the NACC Tournament.

Visiting Lakeland mounted a superb effort in the fourth set to keep the match alive and very nearly send it to a deciding fifth set. Edgewood (19-13 overall) pulled ahead late in a set that would finish with 16 ties and eight lead changes, but the Muskies staved off five match points, including four after trailing 24-20.

Lakeland trailed for almost the entire first two sets in going down 2-0 in the match before getting going in the third set. The Muskies never trailed in the third, but still had to sweat late as Edgewood fought off five set points to tie it at 24-24 before committing a pair of errors to Lakeland the set.
