Muskies to face Calvin in Tip-Off title game after dispatching Mount Mary

The Lakeland University women's basketball team received 46 points from its bench and pulled away in the second half to defeat Mount Mary University 84-42 in the opening game of the 13th Lakeland Tip-Off Tournament, held at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies earned their first win of the season in their home opener and advanced to Saturday's championship game at 4 p.m. Lakeland will go for its seventh Tip-Off Tournament title when it faces Calvin (Mich.) College, which defeated the University of Dubuque (Iowa) 68-55 in Friday night's second semifinal.

The Muskies outscored Mount Mary 44-15 in the second half and received contributions from all throughout their lineup. A total of 13 players scored for Lakeland, which shot 44.9% (35 of 78), out-rebounded the guests 48-31 and forced 35 Blue Angels turnovers.

Miranda Jacobson (So.-Felch, Mich.) scored 13 points and added six rebounds and three steals off the bench, one of a number of reserves to contribute heavily. Tori Lauren (Fr.-Gwinn, Mich.) scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, Emma Lehr (Fr.-Wautoma, Wis.) scored eight points in the first half, and Alison Huber (Fr.-Washburn, Wis.) added four assists.

Bailey Grayvold (Sr.-Norway, Mich.) also scored 10 points and posted a team-high six steals. Rachel Stankevich (Jr.-Goodman, Wis.) contributed nine points and seven rebounds and Kayla Clark (Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) added four points and six assists.

Becky Onan scored 10 points to lead Mount Mary (1-1 overall), which had defeated the Muskies' Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Marian University in its opener. Ariel Oviedo added eight points and six steals.

Lakeland next will face Calvin in the title game after the Knights (2-0 overall) rallied from a first-quarter deficit to pull away from Dubuque. Bre Luurtsema scored 14 points and added five rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Calvin forced the Spartans (0-2 overall) into 31.0% shooting, including 1 of 16 from three-point range.

Dubuque and Mount Mary will meet in the consolation game at 2 p.m., with the championship to follow 25 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Lakeland and Calvin are meeting for the third time in four years, with the Knights winning previous games in 2013 at Lakeland and 2014 at the Knights' home in Grand Rapids, Mich.
