DE KALB, Ill. – The Lakeland University women's basketball team was defeated by NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University 111-49 in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon at the NIU Convocation Center.
The host Huskies of the Mid-American Conference started out on fire, making 13 of their first 17 shots, and never really cooled down, shooting 58.4% for the game (45 of 77). Lakeland, meanwhile, shot 29.8% for the game, making 17 of 57 shots.
The Muskies also committed 30 turnovers against the aggressive defense by NIU. Northern also finished with a 46-31 rebounding advantage and hit 10 three-pointers.
Rachel Stankevich (
Jr.-Goodman, Wis.) provided one of the bright spots for Lakeland with 13 points and eight rebounds, making 4 of 8 field goal attempts, including both of her three-point attempts.
Bailey Grayvold (
Sr.-Norway, Mich.) scored nine points and freshman
Tori Lauren (
Gwinn, Mich.) added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
Mikayla Voigt and Cassidy Glenn scored 21 points each to lead Northern Illinois. Seven Huskies players scored in double figures.
The Muskies now get ready for their regular season opener Tuesday, Nov. 15, when they travel to face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
