DUBUQUE, Iowa –
Dan Matijevic (
Jr.-Palatine, Ill.) hammered home a career-high 15 kills, leading the Lakeland College men's volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Loras (Iowa) College Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies defeated the Duhawks 25-18, 25-12, 25-21 to cap a good two days that included a pair of three-set sweeps of Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League teams. Lakeland also handled North Central (Ill.) College 25-21, 25-15, 25-20 Friday night, and after the weekend is now 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the MCVL.
Matijevic made the start in both matches and was an efficient hitting machine against Loras. He finished with 15 kills and just one error in 21 attack attempts for a .667 hitting percentage.
Matijevic teamed with
Matt Stolz (
Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) to form a two-headed attack that nearly outhit Loras by itself. Stolz added 13 kills, and the duo's 28 kills was more than 75% of Lakeland's 37 as a team and equaled the Duhawks' total of 28 kills in the match.
Casey Bolda (
Jr.-Honolulu, Hawaii) had a tough day on the attack with two kills in 17 attempts but led the team with 12 digs.
Addison Mertler (
Fr.-Boca Raton, Fla.) set the offense with 33 assists and Stolz added three service aces.
Stolz also led the Muskies on Friday against North Central, finishing with a team-high 12 kills in the win over North Central. Lakeland hit a solid .274 against the Cardinals with 35 kills and 12 errors in 84 attempts and also was strong at the net with nine blocks.
Bolda also added eight kills and seven digs, Mertler finished with 26 assists and
Kyle Krogstad (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) paced the team with eight digs.
Christian Frahm (
Jr.-Palatine, Ill.) also finished with seven digs and
Tim Robbins (
Jr.-Wheaton, Ill.) led with four blocks (three solo).
Lakeland takes another road trip next weekend when it travels to face Greenville (Ill.) College at 7 p.m. Friday and Fontbonne (Mo.) University at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
