MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – The Lakeland University men's soccer team scored two early goals and made the early lead hold up for its first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University Tuesday afternoon at East Lake Park.
Thomis Mannebach (
Jr.-Florence, Wis.) made seven saves in goal for his second career shutout and the Muskies made the long trip to the southeast corner of Iowa pay off. Lakeland also earned its first win under first-year head coach 
Marc Baumbach.
Nwachan (Ayoko) Nda (
Sr.-Douala Litoral Region, Cameroon) broke the ice just 6:45 into the match for his second goal of the season. 
Dustin Garbe (
Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) assisted, marking his second assist of the year.
Renan Asato (
Sr.-Sao Paolo, Brazil) notched the second goal in the 28th minute for his team-leading third goal of the season. Mannebach and the defense did the rest of the work, and the goalkeeper made four saves in the first half and three more in the second half.
Nda attempted seven shots, Asato took six shots and 
Bonny Figueroa (Fr.-El Cajon, Calif.) added five shot attempts. The Muskies mounted a 27-13 advantage in shots and a 15-7 lead in shots on goal.
Edgar Vallejo and Elijah Perez split goalkeeping duties for the Tigers, who dropped to 1-4-1 overall. Vallejo made seven saves in the first half and Perez added six saves in the final 45 minutes.
The Muskies will look to make it two wins in a row on Saturday when they travel to face Rockford (Ill.) University in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at 1 p.m.
