Stage set: Muskies get #10 UW-Platteville at home in battle of unbeatens

The Lakeland University football team has a prime opportunity for a showcase against a nationally ranked team when it welcomes the 10th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville to Taylor Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday.

The Muskies will play arguably their biggest regular season non-conference game in years, getting a rare shot at home against a ranked opponent and a member of the vaunted Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Lakeland has not play one from either variety at home since hosting then-No. 2 ranked UW-Whitewater to open the 2007 season.

Lakeland (2-0 overall) rides on the high of its second straight dramatic win to start the season, after rallying in the final seconds to top Albion (Mich.) 40-38 last week. Michael Whitley led a magical drive in the final minute, taking the Muskies down the field 86 yards in just 24 seconds, capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass to Richard Micheaux with seven seconds left.

UW-Platteville (2-0 overall) was idle last week but scored an impressive win two weeks ago, handling NAIA member St. Francis (Ill.) 26-7 in their home opener. Tom Kelly passed for 176 yards and four touchdowns, and the Platteville defense pitched a shutout until the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to defeat a team that finished 8-3 a year ago and was just outside the top 25 in the NAIA. The Pioneers enter this week's game ranked 10th in the nation in the D3football.com top 25 poll and 11th in the AFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Lakeland will provide a live broadcast with audio and video as well as live statistics for today's game at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/lc/. Baxter Colburn will call the play-by-play while Grant Coppersmith will provide analysis. WPVL X107.1 FM in Platteville and http://x1071.com/ will also be providing a live radio broadcast of the game, with Brad Richardson calling the play-by-play and William Trouten on the analysis.
