The Lakeland University men's basketball team avenged an earlier loss this season to Concordia University Chicago with authority, rolling past the Cougars 91-65 Saturday afternoon at Concordia's Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Muskies scored a season-high 91 points and had easily their best shooting performance from the field this season, shooting a sizzling 54.4% to win their third straight game. Lakeland also gained revenge for an 81-70 loss at home to the Cougars back in December, a game where the Muskies shot a season-low 34.3%.
Lakeland improved to 7-9 overall and 5-7 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference by using a 22-4 spurt in the first half to turn a tie game into an 18-point lead. The Muskies eventually pushed the lead to 23 by halftime and led by as many as 30 early in the second half.
Brandon James (
Jr.-Rockford, Ill.) scored 25 points and shot an efficient 10 of 14 from the field, including 4 of 7 from three-point range.
Pat McDonald (
So.-Port Washington, Wis.) also finished close to a triple-double, scoring 15 points and adding seven rebounds and eight assists.
Eric Nygaard (
Jr.-Plymouth, Wis.) also scored 15 points and added five rebounds and
Joshuan McNeal (
Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) also scored 12. The Muskies as a team hit 37 of 68 from the field, including 9 of 21 from three-point range. Lakeland also out-rebounded Concordia 45-29.
The Cougars (3-13 overall, 2-11 NACC) shot 40.3% (25 of 62) and were led by Israel Dosie, who scored 17 points and hit 6 of 8 from the floor. The rest of the team shot a combined 19-for-54, though, and no other player scored more than 10 points.
Lakeland is in action again Sunday when it plays at Aurora (Ill.) University at 3 p.m. The game is being made up after being postponed due to weather on its original date in December.
