MADISON – Garrett Lee scored twice in the first half and Edgewood College added three more goals in the second half to defeat the Lakeland University men's soccer team 5-0 Wednesday night at Breese Stevens Field.
The Muskies rebounded from a lopsided loss over the weekend to stay competitive with the Eagles throughout but couldn't push any goals across in remaining winless overall and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Edgewood improved to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in conference.
Lee scored just over three minutes into the match and then added a second goal 19 minutes 29 seconds in, giving the host Eagles a two-goal lead that held until halftime.
The Muskies stayed close despite a mounting shot differential against them. Edgewood outshot Lakeland 15-2 in the first half and doubled that and more in the second half with a 25-4 bulge over the final 45 minutes, but the score was still just 2-0 until Jordan Stark scored unassisted 11:33 into the second half.
The Eagles added two more goals late, both by Nicholas Bilodeau, who scored at 74:52 and then added a final goal with 1:17 left in the match.
Thomis Mannebach (
Sr.-Florence, Wis.) made 11 saves in goal for the Muskies.
Charles Apostolik (
Jr.-New Castle, Colo.) and
Bonny Figueroa (
So.-El Cajon, Calif.) combined for five shot attempts and all four Lakeland shots on goal, while
Braxten Surber (
Fr.-Shawano, Wis.) also added one shot attempt.
The Muskies are home again for their next game Saturday when they welcome Benedictine (Ill.) University for a 6 p.m. kick.
