KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Niki Saviano (
Fr.-Orland Park, Ill.) threw a five-hitter in her first collegiate start as the Lakeland University softball team opened spring break with a 9-1 win over Beloit College on Sunday.

Saviano threw a six-inning complete game, allowing five hits and just one unearned run in her college debut. She also received plenty of run support as the Muskies scored in four of six innings and eventually ended the game in the sixth on the eight-run rule.
Calie Delisi (
Jr.-Oak Forest, Ill.) and
Jessica Beaudry (
Jr.-Gladstone, Mich.) both had two hits and Beaudry drove in three runs, including two with a double in the fourth. Florida native
Mackenzie Gray (
Fr.-Fernandina Beach, Fla.) and
Caten Teff (
Sr.-Alpena, Mich.) also both had two-run doubles in a four-run third inning that gave the Muskies a 5-0 lead.
Lakeland lost a hard-fought decision in the second game as Kean scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie.
The game was scoreless until the fifth, when Gray delivered a pinch hit single to drive in
Carly Brault (
Jr.-Brillion, Wis.) to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead. The Cougars tied it with a run in the sixth, then scored three times in the top of the seventh after two were out.
Paige Chladek (
Fr.-Orland Park, Ill.) had two hits to lead Lakeland offensively.
Taylor Bush (
So.-Waukesha, Wis.) pitched solid most of the way but took the loss, allowing four runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Lakeland is in action again Monday when it faces Defiance (Ohio) College at 8 a.m. Central time and then takes on DeSales (Pa.) University at 12:30 p.m.
