Muskies excel in all areas in sweep of Bulldogs

The Lakeland University men's volleyball team made quick work of Adrian (Mich.) College with a three-set sweep Friday night to start the team's final home weekend of the season.

The Muskies rolled by a 25-17, 25-9, 25-14 score in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match, winning in just one hour and snapping a four-match losing streak. Lakeland evened its record at 12-12 on the season and moved to 9-9 in the MCVL with one final match left Saturday against Fontbonne (Mo.) University.

The Muskies were dominant in all areas, hitting .356 as a team, posting 13 team blocks on defense and also adding six service aces. Lakeland only trailed briefly early in the first two sets and was able to plug in all 15 healthy players on the roster in the match.

Matt Stolz (Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) led the attack with 11 kills and just one error in 20 swings. Dakota Hunter (So.-Waukesha, Wis.) and Dan Matijevic (Sr.-Palatine, Ill.) both added six kills each, and as a team the Muskies recorded 33 kills with just seven errors in 73 attempts.

Tim Robbins (Sr.-Wheaton, Ill.) finished with one solo block and four block assists and Desmond Williams (So.-Riverside, Calif.) added five block assists. Addison Mertler (So.-Boca Raton, Fla.) finished with 18 assists and also added six digs and two service aces, tying for the team high in both categories.

Adrian hit -.025 for the match with 21 kills and 23 errors. Noah Marcinkowski led the Bulldogs with eight kills.

Lakeland concludes its season on Saturday when it hosts Fontbonne (Mo.) University at 2 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium. It will be Senior Day, with eight players honored before the start of the match.
