Lakeland hosts Rockford looking to get back on track in NACC play

Lakeland University begins the second half of its football season and a home-friendly stretch of the schedule when it welcomes Rockford University for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.

The Muskies will look to get rolling in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with three of their next four games at home, first coming against a Rockford program that they've had success against in the past. Lakeland is 10-0 all-time against the Regents, including a 57-31 win last year in both teams' regular season finale.

Lakeland (1-4 overall, 1-1 NACC) is coming off a 17-0 loss to Concordia Wisconsin 17-0 in the annual Cheese Bowl game last week, the Muskies' first NACC loss since 2016. Lakeland was done in by five turnovers, including four lost fumbles, and was unable to finish numerous drives into Falcon territory, with no less than seven drives ending there. Nick Broder (Fr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) threw for 206 yards, with Jamal Hawkins-Sconiers (Sr.-St. James, Mo.) catching a career-high eight passes for 82 yards. Diante Moses (Sr.-Houston, Texas) posted a career-high 13 tackles on defense and Sam Bartlett (Jr.-Racine, Wis.) also added a career-best 12 tackles, including 1.5 sacks.

Rockford (1-4 overall, 0-2 NACC) also is coming off a defeat last week, though it staged a comeback late before coming up short in a 27-20 loss at home to Benedictine. Rockford outgained its guests 459-326, held a 24-14 advantage in first downs and possessed the ball for more than 36 minutes. The Regents also were hurt badly by miscues, committing six turnovers which led to 17 points for the Eagles. Delayno Mack passed for 298 yards for the Regents while Chance Manning gained 106 yards on the ground.
