Illinois Tech pulls away in second half in topping Lakeland

CHICAGO – Conner Shaw scored two goals and Illinois Institute Technology kept the Lakeland University men's soccer team in retreat much of the night in a 3-0 win Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The Scarlet Hawks won the first meeting between the two since IIT joined the NACC for the 2018-19 school year. Illinois Tech (8-7 overall, 3-5 NACC) scored once in the opening half and added two insurance goals in the second half as Lakeland remained winless in conference play.

Shaw scored the icebreaker in the 36th minute, firing from 20 yards out to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until halftime and into the second half, when Peter Fouchet received a pass from Luke Holzman and scored at 61:21 of the match.

Shaw added one more goal for Illinois Tech in the 78th minute. He scored unassisted at 77:32 to give Illinois Tech its final goal.

Tyson Carter (Fr.-Yakima, Wash.) made seven saves while going the whole way in net for Lakeland (3-13 overall, 0-9 NACC). The Scarlet Hawks finished with an 18-0 advantage in shot attempts.

The Muskies are back on the road Saturday when they travel to face Rockford University for a 7 p.m. start.
