LISLE, Ill. - Benedictine University scored four times in the first half and went on to shut out the Lakeland University men's soccer team 5-0 on Saturday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.
Erik Stammer scored a pair of goals just 15 seconds apart in the first half and also added an assist later as the Eagles remained in second place in the NACC, improving to 5-1 in league play and 8-5 overall. The Muskies remained winless in the conference, dropping to 0-6 in the NACC and 3-10 overall.
The match was scoreless until 15:40 into it, when Stammer got by a challenge by Lakeland goalkeeper
Tyson Carter and then had an empty net to score the first goal. The Eagles needed just 15 seconds to add a second goal, as Stammer drove right on, had his first shot stopped by Carter but then deposited the rebound to suddenly make the score 2-0.
Benedictine added two more goals late in the first half. Lukasz Sulka scored the first in the 39th minute, with Stammer and Daniel Orlich both assisting, and the Eagles scored one more time with less than a minute remaining in the period as George Omondi-Soipan put in a loose ball after a free kick by Willy Campos, making it 4-0.
The Eagles added one more goal in the 64th minute, as Michael Alemu scored on a breakaway against
Aaron Smith, who entered at keeper for the Muskies in the second half.
Benedictine finished with a 27-5 shots advantage, including an 18-3 bulge in shots on goal. Carter made seven saves in the first half and Smith added six stops in the final 45 minutes.
Armando De Luna led the Muskies' attack with two shot attempts, both on goal and both coming in the final 10 minutes.
