NEW BERLIN, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College won a pair of third sets in singles play, which proved to be the difference in a 6-3 win over the Lakeland University women's tennis team Monday night in matches played at the Princeton Club.

The Warriors won four matches at singles and two of three at doubles to claim the important Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup between teams fighting for a spot in the six-team NACC Tournament. Wisconsin Lutheran closed out its league slate with a 5-5 record (7-6 overall), while Lakeland is now 4-4 in the NACC (5-6 overall) with two conference duals remaining.

The Warriors' Sandhya Akella won a third sets at No. 4 singles, defeating Emma Schad (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. WLC's Natalee Douangvilay also came back from a set down at No. 5 singles against Abby Juozapaitis (So.-North Prairie, Wis.), rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The Muskies' singles wins came from Ellie Roe (So.-Plymouth, Wis.) and Calley Wesemann (So.-Watertown, Wis.), including Roe posting a dominating 6-1, 6-0 over Amanda Wietrzny at No. 1 singles. Wesemann also improved to 8-3 in singles play this year by topping Reebee Ratkowski 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.

All three doubles matches were close, but Lakeland's lone win came from Juozapaitis and Schad at No. 2 doubles, where they edged Akella and Ratkowski 8-6. Ann Schroeder (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) and Jessica Leicht (Fr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) lost a close 8-5 decision to Douangvilay and Amanda Las at No. 3 doubles, while Wietrzny and Hannah Gerbing defeated Roe and Wesemann 8-4 at No. 1 flight.

The Muskies close out their regular season with a pair of home duals this weekend. Lakeland hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4 p.m. on Friday and then faces Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday at 10 a.m. Both matches will be played at Sports Core in Kohler.
