Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jacobson puts up triple-double, Muskies blitz MSOE with closing flourish

MILWAUKEE – Miranda Jacobson (Sr.-Felch, Mich.) recorded her second career triple-double and the Lakeland University women's basketball team finished the game on a remarkable run, coming all the way back from a double-digit deficit for a 70-51 win at Milwaukee School of Engineering Thursday night.

The Muskies finished the game on a 28-2 run and scored the game's final 21 points over the last 4 minutes, 53 seconds. Lakeland came back after trailing by 13 points in the first half, winning in a game played one night later than originally scheduled after it was postponed Wednesday night due to the deep freeze conditions in Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.

The Muskies improved to 16-4 overall and 12-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference by dominating the final 7 1/2 minutes after trailing for much of the first three quarters-plus. Lakeland made 8 of 11 field goals and 12 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter while also holding the Raiders (10-10 overall, 8-7 NACC) to one field goal in the final 8:50.

The Muskies hadn't led since early in the first quarter until Amanda Majewski (Jr.-Peshtigo, Wis.) made a three-pointer with 4:53 left in the game for a 52-51 lead. It was the sixth straight trip down the court that Lakeland had scored, and the Muskies would score their next three times down too, with a Megan Will (So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) layup making it 59-51 with 2:37 left.

Lakeland iced the game at the free throw line, making 11 of 14 foul shots over the final 1:02. The Muskies also stoned the Raiders down the stretch, with MSOE missing its final eight shots and also committing five turnovers in the last 4 1/2 minutes.

Lakeland rallied after the Raiders had built a 31-18 lead late in the second quarter and led by eight at halftime. They did so with Jacobson and Will both piling up big numbers, frequently in conjunction with each other.

Jacobson finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, posting the second triple-double in school history and her second-ever triple-double. Will also scored 23 points, making 11 of 13 shots in the field, all in close as the Muskies finished with a giant 42-10 advantage in points in the paint. Jacobson posted seven of her 10 assists on Will's baskets, including five in the fourth quarter when Will made all five of her shots.

Lakeland finished shooting 54.2% for the game, making 26 of 48 shots. The Muskies also made 15 of 21 from the free throw line (71.4%) and outrebounded MSOE 33-26. Majewski also added 11 points and Janai' Farr (So.-Racine, Wis.) scored eight points off the bench.

The Raiders shot 37.5% (21 of 56), including just 8 of 27 (29.6%) in the second half. MSOE did make eight three-pointers, including five in the first half. Kayla Barreto scored 15 points and Jamie Spanbauer added 10 points.

Lakeland now gets ready for an important showdown on Saturday when it travels to face Concordia University Wisconsin at 2 p.m. in Mequon. The Muskies defeated the Falcons in overtime in their first meeting at Lakeland but trail Concordia by half a game in the NACC standings.
