Lakeland/Concordia Wisconsin Game Notes PDF
Homecoming weekend for Lakeland University also brings one of its chief rivals as the Muskies host Concordia University Wisconsin in the annual Cheese Bowl game at Taylor Field Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Muskies and Falcons will meet for the 40th time overall and will play for the Cheese Bowl for the 28th straight year. Lakeland will be looking to take back the trophy currently held by Concordia after its 17-0 win over the Muskies last year in Mequon.
An already big game is even more important for both squads after both teams lost their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference openers last week. Lakeland (1-3 overall, 0-1 NACC) enters off a 31-26 loss to Concordia Chicago last week, when the Muskies fell behind 31-13 early in the fourth quarter before a late rally came up short.
Larry Rivers rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns, and he will enter the game ranked third nationally in NCAA Division III with 148.3 rushing yards/game. Rivers also comes into the game just 25 yards from becoming the eighth player in school history to rush for 2,000 yards in a career.
Concordia (2-2 overall, 0-1 NACC) also was in its NACC opener last week when it was clipped by Benedictine 27-20 in overtime. The Falcons missed a 39-yard field goal attempt in overtime and the Eagles followed with a touchdown to win it. James Linn passed for 258 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons, including connections with Tanner Hill eight times for 129 yards and two scores.
Lakeland will provide live stats and live video for the game at
http://www.lakelandmuskies.com/muskieslive. Lakeland student Nathan Golownia will call all the action. WSCS TV 8 in Sheboygan also will be on hand to televise the game locally in Sheboygan, with Mike Martin on the play-by-play and Chris Wright providing analysis.
