Lakeland wraps up men’s soccer campaign with loss at Concordia Wisconsin

MEQUON – Concordia University Wisconsin scored two goals in the match's first 2 minutes, 41 seconds and went on to defeat the Lakeland University men's soccer team 6-0 Wednesday afternoon.

The Muskies lost their final match of the season, finishing 3-16-1 overall and 0-11 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Concordia improved to 13-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 in conference before it competes in the NACC Tournament next week.

The Falcons started both halves quickly, striking twice early in both. Concordia opened the scoring just 1:47 into the match with a goal by Jackson Dryden, and Dryden posted the assist 54 seconds later on a goal by Jacob Hilbrandt to make the score 2-0.

The Falcons scored a third goal in the 10th minute on an own goal when Dryden's shot deflected off Lakeland's  Thomas Sanuk (So.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and rolled into the net. The Muskies steadied from there and trailed 3-0 at halftime, but CUW scored again just 1:18 into the second half when Dryden converted a penalty kick.

Concordia scored again in the 49th minute on a goal by Ivan Cuellar, who also added a second goal at 60:53 of the match.

The Falcons dominated possession and finished with a 46-2 advantage in shot attempts. John Bentler (Sr.-Seattle, Wash.) posted the lone shot on goal for Lakeland in the second half, while Keaton Vogel (Fr.-Chanhassen, Minn.) also added a shot attempt in the first half.

Aaron Smith (So.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) made 16 saves in goal in over 63 minutes for the Muskies before Alex VandenAvond (So.-Luxemburg, Wis.) came on and stopped five shots the rest of the way.

The match was the final one for four Lakeland seniors including Bentler, Ryoto Kinoshita (Kanagawa, Japan), Shosei Suzuki (Tokyo, Japan) and Cheng Xiong (Milwaukee, Wis.).
