FOND DU LAC – Marian University scored twice just before halftime and added three more goals early in the second half to defeat the Lakeland University women's soccer team 6-0 Wednesday night.
The Muskies dropped their third straight in slipping to 3-9-1 overall and 2-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Marian improved to 5-7 overall and is now 3-3 in the NACC.
The Sabres scored in the match's first five minutes but Lakeland hung within a goal until the final 10 minutes of the first half. Ashley Welk scored her second goal of the match with 9 minutes, 33 seconds left in the first half to give Marian a 2-0 lead, and the hosts added another just before halftime when Megan Harbeck converted a penalty kick with just over a minute remaining in the half.
The Sabres would take full control in the second half with three goals in a span of 11:49. Natalie Des Jardins scored the first in the 56th minute, and Emily Hill and Alicia Balken also added goals for Marian.
Marian finished with a 38-7 advantage in shots and a 23-5 lead in shots on goal.

Sr.-Racine, Wis.) led Lakeland with two shots on goal each.
Erin Tomlinson (
So.-Madison, Wis.) had a busy night in goal and made 17 saves for the Muskies.
Lakeland is on the road again Saturday when it travels to face Dominican University in a NACC match at 2:45 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
