LISLE, Ill. – Benedictine University put the Lakeland University women's basketball team in a big hole early and the Muskies were defeated 74-54 Saturday afternoon at the Rice Center in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
The Eagles held Lakeland without a field goal for the first 6 minutes 45 seconds and never trailed in splitting the season series between the teams. The Muskies fell in their final road match of the regular season, dropping to 17-5 overall and 13-4 in the NACC.
Lakeland played for the first time in a week and never got going offensively, shooting 28.6% for the game (18 of 63). In contrast, Benedictine shot 45.7% in the first half (16 of 35), building a 20-point lead by midway through the second quarter and leading by as many as 31 at one point.
Megan Will (
So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) scored 11 points and was the only Muskie in double figures.
Janai' Farr (
So.-Racine, Wis.) also added eight points plus five rebounds off the bench.
Miranda Jacobson (
Sr.-Felch, Mich.) paced the team with seven rebounds and added six points.
Benedictine (19-4 overall, 15-3 NACC) finished the game shooting 38.9% (28 of 72) and committed just seven turnovers. Alex Fanning scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading five Eagles scoring in double figures.
Lakeland closes out the regular season this week with a trio of NACC games at home, beginning on Monday when it hosts Aurora University for a 7 p.m. start at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
