Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Nygaard sets career high as Muskies down Cougars in offensive buffet

Eric Nygaard (Sr.-Plymouth, Wis.) scored a career-high 26 points and the Lakeland University men's basketball team had plenty of offensive stars in a 100-83 win over Concordia University Chicago Monday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

Nygaard led a group of five players scoring in double figures, making 11 of 17 shots and also just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. He helped Lakeland hit the 100-point mark for the first time this season while wrapping up a sweep of both Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games against the Cougars this year.

The Muskies (9-12 overall, 7-9 NACC) shot 52.1% from the floor, making 37 of 71 shots. Lakeland also made 16 of 30 from three-point range (53.3%) and also easily posted a season high as a team with 24 assists, including a career-best 13 from Pat McDonald (Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.).

The Muskies trailed only briefly in the game's opening stages and had Concordia (5-15 overall, 5-10 NACC) in chase mode the rest of the way after building an early 10-2 lead. The Cougars would hang around much of the rest of the game, but never got closer than four points midway through the first half and no closer than five points in the second half.

The team's went back and forth all game and both shot well, with CUC also hitting 48.1% from the field (37 of 77). The Cougars were at a heavy disadvantage from the three-point line, though, making just two triples in three attempts,

McDonald also added 14 points to his assist total. Zach Hasenstein (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) also scored 21 points, Jequan Pegeese (So.-Beloit, Wis.) added 14 points and Carlos Campos (Jr.-Janesville, Wis.) scored 12.

Landen Gladney scored a game-high 28 points for Concordia and also added 12 rebounds. He and Hassan Basbous (18 points, 11 rebounds) helped the Cougars to a 45-36 rebounding advantage. Mitch Pelissier also added 23 points plus seven rebounds.

The Muskies are home again Wednesday when they welcome Aurora University for a 7 p.m. start at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
