The Lakeland University men's basketball team will try to complete a rare season sweep of Aurora University when it hosts the Spartans Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies already defeated Aurora just over two weeks ago, winning 90-85 in Illinois on the strength of 17 three-pointers. Lakeland sits 1 1/2 games behind the Spartans in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings, making Wednesday night's game an important one for Lakeland's NACC Tournament chances.
The Muskies won two nights ago, defeating Concordia Chicago 100-83 on Monday.
Eric Nygaard (
Sr.-Plymouth, Wis.) scored a career-high 26 points and also added nine rebounds and
Pat McDonald (
Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) also added a career-best 13 assists as the Muskies posted a season-high 24 assists as a team. Lakeland also hit 16 three-pointers and shot 52.1% from the field, its fourth time this season hitting 50% or better.
Aurora (10-10 overall, 8-7 NACC) also won on Monday, edging Benedictine 78-73 in overtime. The Spartans trailed by 10 with four minutes left but scored the final 10 points of regulation, with Bailey Vance tying it with a layup with 33 seconds left. Vance then hit a jumper with 19 seconds left in overtime for a three-point lead and soon after clinched it with two free throws.
