Marian edges Lakeland in men’s tennis dual

KOHLER – Marian University pulled out a pair of close matches in doubles play that eventually made the difference in a 6-3 win over Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's tennis dual Saturday.

T.J. Corona (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.), Nick Lange (Jr.-Mukwonago, Wis.), Jacob Larson (Fr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Aaron Smith (Fr.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) all were part of wins for the Muskies, who were just two close decisions from their second conference win of the season. Marian pulled out close results at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, though, and was victorious in its home dual, which was moved to Lakeland home courts inside at Sports Core due to the cold.

Corona and Smith earned their first win of the season teamed up at No. 3 doubles, defeating Kyle Carignan and Austin Hall 8-5. Larson also played for the first time at No. 2 singles this season and topped Joey Dittman 6-1, 6-1, and Lange also defeated Coy Paulson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

The Sabres (2-6 overall, 2-3 NACC) earned two tough wins in doubles. Dittman and Danny Roe edged Lange and Jared Nummerdor (Sr.-Waupun, Wis.) 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Paulson and Lawson MacDonald edged Larson and Bill Behrmann (Sr.-Long Lake, Wis.) in their No. 2 doubles match, with the 8-7 final score including a 10-4 tiebreak win.

Lakeland (1-9 overall, 1-4 NACC) next will travel to face Edgewood College next Saturday at 10 a.m. in Madison.
