Muskies Finish 0-3 at Wittenberg Jim Coleman Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Lakeland University men's volleyball team finished 0-3 this weekend at the Jim Coleman Invitational hosted by Wittenberg (Ohio) University.

On Friday, the Muskies dropped a mid-afternoon match in straight sets to Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University 25-21, 25-19, 31-29 before being swept by Lancaster Bible (Pa.) College 25-16, 25-15, 25-9 to finish the first day of the tournament. The Muskies then lost a Saturday morning contest to Juniata College (Pa.), the 15th-ranked team in the country, by scores of 25-11, 25-17, 25-15.

Nathan Vanderwaal was named to the all-tournament team following a dominant weekend where he averaged 3.11 kills per set and totaled 28 kills and five service aces. Vanderwaal's best performance came against Mount St. Joseph on Friday when he posted a game-high 10 kills along with four service aces. He followed up that performance with another solid game against Lancaster Bible College where he also had the game-high in kills with 11.

Joining Vanderwaal in double-digits in the kill column over the tournament were Matt Misheck (17) and Ben Miller (12). Cameron Ekum racked up 54 assists over the three matches, including a match-high 23 against Mount St. Joseph. Defensively, four players had ten or more digs, including Maui Viola with a team-leading 17, and Isaiah Vance led the team at the net with four blocks.

The Muskies look for their first win of the season next Saturday, January 25, when they travel to Fond du Lac for a triangular with Wittenberg and Marian.
