Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lakeland dominates from the start in clinching season sweep of Marian

The Lakeland University men's basketball team shot over 50% for the second straight game and breezed by Marian University 95-59 Saturday afternoon at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies built a double-digit lead less than six minutes into the game and were never threatened in clinching a sweep of the season series between the two schools. Lakeland improved to 8-9 overall and moved to 6-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Muskies had a far easier time with the Sabres (3-14 overall, 2-10 NACC) than in the teams' first meeting back in December, where the teams went to overtime before Lakeland prevailed 89-87. This time, the Muskies were in charge virtually from the start, never trailing in the game and leading by as many as 29 in the first half and by as much as 43 in the second half.

Lakeland shot 51.6% for the game, making 32 of 62 shots. The Muskies were almost automatic inside the three-point arc in the first half, when they made 14 of 15 two-point shots, including 11 layups, and they then knocked down eight three-pointers in the second half in 15 tries, finishing the game 13 of 33 from long range (39.4%).

Jequan Pegeese (Jr.-Beloit, Wis.) and Tylan Huff (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 16 points each and Eric Jordan (Fr.-Chicago, Ill.) added 13 points. Twelve different players scored for the Muskies, who received 49 points from the bench. Pegeese also added seven assists and Tony White (Fr.-New Orleans, La.) notched nine points plus three steals.

The Muskies are home again for their next game Wednesday when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 7 p.m. tip at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
